Message from Ariane – This year’s conference chair.

In case you missed the email, or were not on the list at the time it was sent out, here is what Ariane had to say.

Ariane Rosario

Hello all,

My name is Ariane Rosario and I am the Conference Chair for SWE this year. I wanted to share some important information regarding those interested in attending conference this year. As you all know, the SWE national conference in Baltimore is approaching quickly, on October 24th-26th. If you are planning to attend the conference and want to have your hotel stay payed for, please pay close attention to the following comments:

You MUST sign the Traveling Affidavit sheet that I have in my possession. This is form is due to Student Government by September 17th, so you must ensure that you meet with me before that day if you plan on traveling with SWE. This can be done by either

a) Attending the General Body meeting on September 16th from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM in ENB 109 or

b) By meeting with me during the following times in the Fishbowl (ENB lobby):

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 PM – 4:30 PM
Fridays from 10:30 AM – 12:30 AM

Please let me know via email if you would like to meet during those times. If you cannot make those times, please send me an email a few days prior to when you can meet and I will try my best to accommodate. Please note that spots are LIMITED and will fill up quickly. If you do not meet this deadline, you will have to pay for your own stay.

In addition to signing the affidavit, members must register on the SWE national website at It is recommended to stay for the entire conference. The rate for collegiate national members is $90, and collegiate non-members pay $125. Flights must also be purchased individually, and be sure to buy as soon as possible because the price increases quickly.

That being said, I hope that you decide to attend the conference with SWE! It’s a great way to become more involved in the organization and make connections in the industry, and is also a lot of fun! If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to shoot me an email at:

Thanks, and have a wonderful week!

Ariane Rosario

Big/Little Mixer!

Join us September 6th for our first Big/Little activity: a social mixer!

Come out to meet and greet your fellow members and mingle with your future Big or Little.

James, our events officer, says “The Big & Little Mixer is an opportunity for Bigs and Littles to meet prior to being paired off. Though this event is NOT Mandatory, attending will increase chances of good chemistry between Bigs and Littles.”

So jump out of your shell, and your circles, and come meet some new people!

**If you can’t make it to the event, but still want to participate in the Big/Little program, please send an email to James at to let him know.**

Location: ENC 3006

Time: 5p-7p

National Conference 2012

Members attended the National Conference in Houston, TX.

Our very own Counselor, Sandy Pettit won first 1st Place in the Graduate Research Category! Congratulation Sandy!!!

Here are some member’s impressions of the conference:

“Conference was a great experience. I got an interview with an electricity company that I would have never had access to otherwise. I met some of the engineers who design products I use every day– from medications to soap to cars. I met hundreds of fellow female engineers, and I discovered that everything I’ve worried about– from academics, to beginning my career and even family and personal life– is totally normal, and I learned the importance of having support from your peers. I’ll definitely be going to conference next year!” – Hayley Rohrer
